“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf” - Jon Kabat-Zinn
Each phase of life brings new changes and challenges. While we can’t stop these challenges from arising, we can learn how to navigate change and conflict in a way that brings more peace and calm to our lives. As a social worker for many years, I strive to meet each client where they are on their journey. I look at all the factors that interplay in our lives and may invite important family members into sessions so you can learn how to better support each other. My style is empathetic and non-judgmental as I believe we all bring value to the world.
I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults and adults who struggle with anxiety, life changes and family and relationship stressors. I have a strong interest in body image and self-esteem, particularly with adolescents. My background as a yoga teacher and dedicated yoga student has taught me the value of mindfulness and holding gratitude for your body and all that it can do. I believe in providing practical coping skills that you can start to institute in your daily life right away, while working together to learn more about what makes you unique and how you can embrace your superpowers and let go of old patterns that no longer serve you.
I tailor my therapeutic approach and interventions to the specific needs of each individual. This could include aspects of Somatic Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, CBT, DBT, IFS, Attachment Theory or MI. I utilize evidence-based approaches and continually engage in research and continuing education in order to remain updated on therapeutic techniques and information.
